Country Railway Routes
Alnmouth to Alnwick, Coldstream and Berwick
by Roger Darsley and Dennis Lovett
Alnwick joined the railway network early on. The Alnwick and Coldstream line followed, serving a remote and rural area. It lost its passenger services in the 1930s and goods traffic remained on part of the route until the 1960s. The Alnwick branch also closed and over 50 years later is now being rebuilt, in part, as a heritage railway. All these aspects are extensively illustrated herein.
